Miller Creek Middle School is a community that encourages all its members-students, staff, and parents- to be lifelong learners who embrace a healthy lifestyle, demonstrate compassion and empathy for others, and act with integrity and honesty. It is the goal of this community to provide the tools and resources necessary to foster creative, independent thinkers who will become proud stewards of our world.
Location and Community
Miller Creek Middle School is located just outside the city limits of
San Rafael, California. It serves the communities of Lucas Valley,
Marinwood, and Terra Linda. One of four schools in the Dixie School
District, it was originally constructed in 1964. Nestled within the
beautiful hills of Marin County, we have Miller Creek running behind the
campus, oaks and bay trees surrounding the campus, and the historic
Dixie School House at our entrance. We have over 34 classrooms, a gym,
performing arts stage, band room, orchestra room, choir room, two
computer centers, the world-famous Creek Cafe, and a state-of-the-art
library/media center. Our school receives active and generous support
from our parent community, the Dixie Children's Fund (DCF), and the
Miller Creek Home and School Club.
Enrollment
Miller Creek currently serves just over 600 sixth, seventh and eighth
grade students. We run a seven period day from 8:00 to 3:00 M,T,Th,F and
a shortened day each Wednesday from 8:00 to 2:00. Miller Creek has been
recognized as a California Distinguished School three times, 1996,
2001, and most recently in 2005.
Faculty
Currently, Miller Creek is staffed with 38 credentialed teachers
(including a full-time librarian), 7 instructional assistants, 1 site
technology assistant, 2 administrators, 3 office support personnel, 1
full-time counselor, and part-time speech therapist. District support
includes part-time psychologist, nurse, technology coordinator and more!
The entire Dixie District works collaboratively to support continual
professional development, improvement, and learning. Each year, district
staff attend conferences (local, state and national), research best
practices, and implement innovative that support student success. 18 of
our teachers have participated and completed the eight-day Apple
Education Training.
Technology
Miller Creek maintains a wireless campus serving over 150 iMac, eMac,
and Macbook computers. Well over half of our classrooms are equipped
with LCD projectors. Students have access to both the Internet and
innovative technological tools. SmartBoards are used in all of
our science classrooms 6 thru 8. These tools allow our "digital"
students to demonstrate learning and creativity, access global
information, and communicate with the world. Student information and
assessment is managed school-wide using both the Aeries and Data
Director software systems.
